Our memories of Hamm’s go deep. I remember sitting at Maroo’s Tavern in Dodge Center,Mn. with my Dad as a kid. Enjoying my returnable bottle of grape Crush with a cheeseburger and fries, while being mesmerized by the Hamm’s moving waters sign behind the cash register. Steve and I both collected beer cans in our youth, and we both remember the dimensional barrel cans made by Hamm’s in the 1970’s.
My wife’s Grandpa, Andy started working at Hamm’s here in St. Paul after leaving Pabst in Milwaukee in the late 1950’s. He worked his way up to brewmaster before he left when the Hueblein Co. bought Hamm’s and started changing their recipes in the name of cost-saving and efficiency. Hamm’s holds a special place in our hearts and collections.
And, as crazy as it sounds, we are learning about Hamm’s and it’s history on a weekly basis. Although it’s just a guess, Steve thinks that he may have HALF (or less) of the advertising items produced by Hamm’s. They were a prolific advertiser, and most regional/area distributors created their own promotional advertising. These were given to accounts and taverns for their loyalty and on holidays. Items like lighters, salt shakers and everyday items that would be USED and not kept. That’s what makes them collectible.
We appreciate the brand, beer and their cool advertising and that’s why this website exists. To interact and learn from folks like you. If you have items, questions or are looking for advice-we are “your guys!”
Stay healthy and hydrated,Hammpions!
